The end of the asparagus season

Summer solstice marks the end of the asparagus cropping. Now you should let the spears grow into lovely wispy leaf stems to feed the crowns ready for next year's crop. The leaves are really pretty but I am sad that there will be no more asparagus for at least 9 months.

Thank you for stopping by my blog. I think the only reason I have everything planted out is that I've cut back this year on what I'm growing.

I've found that trying to grow virtually everything you see in the seed catalogues is too much like hard work!

I'm growing mainly things we've tried before, that we know grow well without too much attention, and that we like to eat. I think the only new thing this year was cucumbers, to see how they do outdoors. Oh, and I may get some rhubarb crowns for next year - I think I'm the only plot without any at the moment. :)
